My first job was in retail, when I was in Grade 10. At work, one of my first colleagues had a gambling problem and, to overcome that, he turned to God and had started a course in Christian studies as part of his rehabilitation.

With his newfound missionary zeal, he went to work on me — given that I was of another faith. He would tell me that in the Bible, the Lord Jesus says: "The only way to God is through Me."

At the time, it just made me smile, as by that point in my life I was already brought up with an understanding that all faiths are true. Once again with my theme of the things that stay with you — this happened in 1995 and I still remember this moment to this day.

It has come to the fore again, as I was interacting with another spiritual seeker, and it made me realize that what the Lord Jesus was saying is:

"The only way to God is through the Guru."

Spiritual seekers who turn to scripture should not be left in any doubt. Srila Prabhupada will always preface the word Guru with the words "bona-fide." A bona-fide Guru.

I realize that all my understandings and realizations in life have come through reading and listening to bona-fide Gurus.

So the question to you is: Who is your Guru?
